Treatment Sand

Treatment sand is produced from natural quartz sand after washing and screening processes in accordance with TS EN 12904 standards.

Treatment sand is produced from natural quartz sands after washing and screening processes in accordance with TS EN 12904 standards and classified in the desired dimensions. Quartz sands used as treatment sands are insoluble in acid tests and do not lose mass.

“Quartz filter sands used in purification and filtration have a high wear resistance. For this reason, it offers long-term solutions in filtration.”

Quartz sand used in drinking water treatment is sand purification sand created with some elements and chemicals. Harmful microorganisms, sediments, bacteria and harmful particles in the water can be separated with treatment sand.

Treatment sands are mainly used in drinking water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, boiler filters and swimming pools. Quartz Treatment sands must comply with TS EN 12904 standards. When the right product is selected, the quality of drinking water increases accordingly.

There are fast and slow sand filter systems in drinking water treatment plants. Quick sand filters generally work with a nozzle and a backwash system in the filter sand range of 0,800-1,200 mm. In slow sand filters, bedding is made with 15-25 mm gravel and 5-15 mm gravel. 3-5 mm and 1-3 mm gravel is placed on it. On the top layer, treatment sand is placed at a height of about 1 meter in the range of 0,300-0,500 mm. Water flow rate is low in slow filters. Slow or fast sand filter selections are made according to the chemical structure and pollution rate of the water. Sometimes the top layer treatment sand sizes can be in the range of 0.400-0.800 mm and 0.600-1.0 mm or an alternative specified size.

Function of Purifying Sand:

Sand filters are high-efficiency units designed to remove insoluble particles of various sizes and suspended solids in water. While sand filters keep suspended solids in the water, they also prevent the units to be installed after them from sediment. enabling them to fully fulfill their duties. Therefore, the main unit that must be in a general treatment system is the sand filter.

How is Treatment Made with Treatment Sand? :

Fully automatic sand filters have a structure consisting of different sizes of Quartz and anthracite layers inside polyethylene or steel tanks. Thanks to this structure created, filtration is ensured to be more efficient by spreading not only on the upper surface of the filter bed but also on all layers.
